Tom’s journey in creating Rock Ferry Wines began more than 25 years ago when he discovered the pleasures of wine as a university student. A fortuitous opportunity to experience the great domains of France led to him exploring the more circumspect philosophy that ‘fine wine begins with the vine’, enrolling at UC-Davis to study viticulture. With Rock Ferry, he has targeted exceptional New Zealand vineyard areas to plant traditional as well as experimental grape varietals and has carefully selected and assembled a passionate and talented group of people to bring his vision to life.

Sales Director

Robert got involved with wine through hospitality and boutique wine store retail before moving on to the sales world by filling shop shelves and building spiffy displays. From there started a journey that would take him from account manager roles to national and international sales roles both for leading multinationals as well as privately owned companies. Now in his happy place at Rock Ferry, he is in charge of growing sales both locally and in the export markets.

Administration Manager

Nicky is in charge of the engine room and is often the friendly voice at the end of the phone. She keeps the finances in order, runs the logistics side of the business and pays the bills, phew! . Super organised and efficient, Nicky keeps us honest and on our toes, and with her lovely smile and manner its hard not to do what she asks. Nicky is our go- to person and we recommend she is yours too!

Allan McWilliams

Allan McWilliams

Winemaker

Armed with an oenology degree from Roseworthy, Allan has worked vintages in a few wine regions. He has made wine in the Hunter Valley and Margaret River, Australia before heading over to the U.S. to make Pinot Noir in Oregon and eventually to Chateau Petrus in Bordeaux. After brief stints in Switzerland and Italy’s Barolo region, he returned home to New Zealand and winemaking for Goldwater Estate, Nautilus, Cellier Le Brun and Wairau River. Allan has been making Rock Ferry’s wines since our first vintage in 2005.

Vineyards Manager

For Peter organics is simply the sensible way to grow grapes. Prior to Rock Ferry Peter started the organics program for NZ's largest corporate winegrower in 2007, convincing them to commit vineyard land and specialist machinery to the project. "The Wairau Plains have been a mono culture of grazing or vineyards for too long, we all need to start repaying the land for what we continue to take out of it." When not at Rock Ferry Peter can be found slogging it out on the local mountain bike park

Jason Thomson

Jason Thomson

Viticulturist (Central Otago)

Jason loves plants and strives to produce top quality grapes from those plants. He enjoys getting out amongst the vines and watching the seasons change and believes that wines talk of their place and of their parentage. He believes that grapes reflect both their treatment on the vine and in the winemaking process.

Haydn Gelling

Haydn Gelling

Hospitality & Brand Manager

Originally from the Isle of Man, Haydn began his hospitality career at the tender age of 13 and progressed to be Restaurant & Bar Manager for top UK restaurants. He came over to New Zealand in 2016 to explore the wine industry of Marlborough and pursue his true passion, wine. Haydn is now able to combine his experience and love of wine helping Rock Ferry grow its brand through it's Blenheim based Cafe & Cellar Door.

Marketing & Events Manager

Sarah joined our Rock Ferry family in October 2017 as a casual Summer waitress in our Cafe and quickly got drawn in to our world, now moving into the role of Marketing & Events. Originally from the UK, Sarah worked as an Events & Sales Manager for a variety of companies in London where she found her passion for all things food & wine.

Becky Wiseman

Becky Wiseman

Head Chef

Becky is in charge of the kitchen on a day to day basis and is also responsible for the delicious aromas that waft upstairs to the office and torture us throughout the day! A passionate foodie (with a particular flair for desserts) Becky’s laugh and enthusiasm is infectious and she ensures the whole team is smiling all day – come and experience her food, but we warn you it is addictive!
