About the 2014 Orchard Pinot Blanc

Vineyard & Region

Orchard Vineyard, Rapaura, Wairau Plains, Marlborough.

Tasting Note

There's not much Pinot Blanc in New Zealand let alone Marlborough, so we are chuffed to release this rare beauty. Aromas of pear, almond meal, mandarin & a hint of florality; the wine has a beautifully concentrated palate, creamy in the middle & laced with flavours of Meyer lemon & nut. Allan says "This is a gentle giant, which will develop more complex character with age"

Alc 13.7%   T.A. 5.8g/l    pH3.42    R.S.5.0g/L

Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles we believe we are doing our best to help achieve this and let our vineyards evolve and speak as they would like.

Hand harvested whole bunch pressed, using free run juice only, the juice is lightly settled then fermented predominantly in stainless steel with cultured yeast - 12% of the juice went into 3 year old puncheons to ferment naturally.

Orchard Vineyard Marlborough Pinot Blanc 2014

Generously weighted and rounded, this flavoursome pinot blanc shows lifted aromas of ripe apple, nectarine, mango and subtle spice on the nose. The palate delivers excellent mid palate weight and silky texture, wonderfully framed by well-integrated acidity. Very long and engaging on the finish. At its best: now to 2019. Oct 2016. 4.5 stars 91/100pts. Sam Kim, Wine Orbit.

Full-bodied and dryish has good weight and personality, with concentrated, vibrant, peachy, slightly spicy flavours, showing a distinct touch of complexity, moderate acidity and a well-rounded finish. Drink now or cellar. 4.5 Stars Michael Cooper's Buyer's Guide 2017.

This has a fresh, tightly bound and slender nose with good depth of detailed white stonefruits along with subtle waxy and lanolin notes and suggestions of herbs and nuts. Dry to taste and medium-bodied the flavours of white florals and stonefruits are pristine, revealing nuances of nuts and minerals, and a little waxiness and lanolin. The palate has a good core and line, with very fine textures and soft, but refreshing acidity. This has up-front vitality, and the wine carries to a moderately long finish of white stonefruits and minerals. This is an elegant and clean, dry Pinot Blanc with clear stonefruit and floral flavours and waxy, lanolin notes with a fine-textured line. 3+ years. 17.5-/20 Oct 2016. Raymond Chan.
