2022 was another harvest in dynamic times. A top effort from our team helped make it a successful one all around, and we managed to avoid any COVID issues. We were fortunate to bring in some of our Cellar Door team to assist and it was great to share the energy of harvest and show them more of what we do.
A Rock Ferry Close Up: We Welcome Sherry Garrity, Administration Manager The story reads almost like a fairy tale. September 2021 Sherry is given a temporary assignment at Rock Ferry Wines to help with administration and financial tasks. Turns out that she already had plenty of experience working in the wine industry. Previously employed at Te Kairanga Wines in Martinborough for 7 years, Sherry was also involved in admin and finance roles for Vavasour and Grove Mill for Foley Family Wines. Having grown up in Greytown, moved to Carterton, went to College in Greytown Sherry had very strong family connections in the Wairarapa. It was very much her ‘home base.’ Sherry also breeds and shows French Bulldogs which continues to be a passion for her. Coincidentally, both her twin daughters married and settled in Blenheim, so Sherry of course had visited many times to see her family here and to attend dog shows. Her dog family was expanding, and she was looking for a more rural environment for her dogs. The idea of moving to Marlborough was floated and certainly seemed like a great idea. Sherry and her partner are now well settled on 1.2 acres with a lovely home and gardens that they share with 8 French Bulldogs and Sherry’s Mum has now also moved down recently. Thankfully Sherry was offered a permanent position – which she accepted – and she joined the Rock Ferry Wines team in January 2022. How lucky we were.

What started out as a ‘gap year’ from his studies in Prague turned Tomas’ life upside down …. literally. His childhood was spend growing up in a village in Czech Republic close to the German border. He then moved to Prague to start his university degree in Building Engineering. After four years of intense study Tomas was ready for a break so set off to spend 12 months back-packing around the world before returning to complete his degree.
We will be celebrating this great grape variety for the weekend offering vertical flights of Riesling! Dry and sticky style wines will be available on our tasting list, well as in house specials on these library wines. There is a limited supply so enjoy it while you can!

We wish Nicky all the best for the future and thank her for the huge part she has played in the growth and success of Rock Ferry Wines. Although she is relinquishing most of her Rock Ferry responsibilities, we are delighted she has agreed to continue to look after the accounting needs of our four vineyards. Thank you for your talents, energy, and contribution. We have all enjoyed working with you Nicky and know the friendships made will remain.
