Vineyard(s):

2018 Aurora Creek Pinot Blanc/Pinot Gris

Region:

Marlborough

Viticulture:

Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles we believe we are doing our best to help achieve this and let our vineyards evolve and speak as they would like.

Winemaking:

The grapes were machine harvested in the cool morning and the juice was cold settled for 48 hours before being racked. 10% of the juice as transferred into 5 year olds barrels and the remainder to stainless steel for fermentation with a range of yeast strains. We aimed for a long, cool fermentation to retain the varietal characteristics and left the wine on fine lees to build palate texture.

Tasting notes:

Sweet nectarine, white peach & honeysuckle greets you on the nose. Whilst a mellow stone fruit character comes in on the palate with a generous but soft texture.

Technical:

Alc 13%. TA 6.3g/l. pH 3.34. RS 4.7g/l.

Review(s):

"This alternative-style, almost 'orange' wine in nature, shows complex aromas of orange peel, baked pear, ripe strawberry, mixed spice and potpourri on the nose, followed by a wonderfully expressed palate that delivers excellent weight and concentration. It is richly fruited and deeply savoury at the same time, brilliantly framed by fine, polished tannins, which provide a slightly grippy finish, making it a terrific food wine." - Sam Kim, 5 stars
