2018 Rock Ferry 3rd Rock Central Otago Pinot Noir

2018 Rock Ferry 3rd Rock Central Otago Pinot Noir

Bendigo, Central Otago, New Zealand.

Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating biodynamic principles we believe we are doing our best to help achieve this and allowing our vineyards to evolve and express themselves. Our Pinot Noir comes from Bendigo, Central Otago, sitting 400m above sea level and planted on the North West facing ridges.

The fruit is de-stemmed into open top French cuves where it cold soaks for a week before it spontaneously ferments lasting about three weeks. It is then pressed off into a mixture of seasoned and new (25%) French Oak, where it matures for 20 months before bottling, without filtering or fining. Clones: Abel, 115, 777, 5, and 667.

Tasting notes:

Intense aromas of spice, doris plum, and dark red berries lead to a rich palate, laden with concentrated fruit and chalky, ripe tannins.

Alcohol - 14.0%. pH - 3.58. TA - 5.9g/l. RS - dry.  Contains sulphites, fined with egg whites(traces may remain).  Certified organic.

"Fresh, new, youthful, mineral, fruity and varietal bouquet. Aromas and flavours of fresh red cherry and tart raspberry, red apple and rose then spices and aromas of oak. Equally youthful on the palate with a new and firm texture from acidity, finer fruit then wood tannins and a stony minerality adding complexity and depth. An intriguing wine with a lengthy finish, generous with fruit, flavour, texture and pinosity." - Cameron Douglas, 93 points
