2019 Rock Ferry 3rd Rock Marlborough Chardonnay
Rapaura, Wairau Plains, Marlborough, New Zealand.
Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles we believe we are doing our best to help achieve this and let our vineyards evolve and speak as they would like.
The grapes were hand harvested, sorted and whole bunch pressed. The juice was settled for 24 hours and transferred into seasoned 225L oak barrels where it went thru an indigenous fermentation. The wine was matured on full ferment lees and underwent malolactic fermentation in spring. After 11 months in oak it was lightly fined with organic milk and bottled in February 2020.
"This Chardonnay shows aromas of white peach, lemon curd and soft walnut aromas on the nose. The palate fills with golden stone fruit and a touch of green tea, guided by a persistent line of acidity. A complex yet elegant mid-palate extends to a lengthy finish." - Cameron Douglas MS
