Rock Ferry Central Otago Tempranillo 2010

Vineyard:

Rock Ferry Central Otago Tempranillo 2010

Region:

Bendigo, Central Otago

Viticulture:

Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so as wine it can express it's place and personality. To do this we need healthy vines and soil, By practising organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles we believe we are laying the best foundation to help achieve this and therefore let our vineyards evolve and speak as they would like. We spend a lot of time getting to know our land - there is much to learn - and each year we use what we learn to help make better wine. It's a slow, wonderful, sometimes frustrating process.

Winemaking:

This is not the bigger style of Tempranillo you may find from Spain, but expressive of our vineyard and region. Framing it with oak and letting the variety speak are our aims, and we make a small amount.

Tasting notes:

The 2010 vintage was a warm one, and therefore we see dark, brooding leather and blackcurrant notes on the nose while the palate shows ripe, silky cassis, blackberry and plum flavours, with fine, supple tannins moving through the wine framed by toasty French oak.

Technical:

Alc 14% TA 5.5 g/l pH 3.78 RS Dry

Winemaker:

Allan McWilliams

Review:

Wine Orbit 4 Stars - Warm and generous, the bouquet shows dark plum, game, spice and roasted nut characters. It's succulent and velvety on the palate with expansive mouthfeel and plenty of supple tannins. A lovely rendition of the classic Spanish variety.
