Vineyard:

2018 The Corners Vineyard Chardonnay and 2014 the Corners Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc

Region:

Rapaura, Wairau Plains, Marlborough

Viticulture:

Our aim in the vineyard is to grow the best fruit we can so it can speak of its home and express its personality. To do this you need healthy vines and soil. By practicing organics and incorporating some biodynamic principles we believe we are doing our best to help achieve this and let our vineyards evolve and speak as they would like.

Winemaking:

Chardonnay - Mendoza Chardonnay was hand harvested, bunch sorted and then very gently whole bunched pressed. The free run juice was warm settled for 12 hours with no additions and the cloudy juice racked to a concrete egg for indigenous fermentation. The ferment was warm ( 25 degrees ) and the wine was left on full ferment lees for 8 months and underwent MLF during this aging. It was then racked off lees in March 2019 and bottled.

Tasting notes:

Chardonnay - This Chardonnay has an intriguing bouquet of honey, nougat & nectarine with unique and distinctive flavours of vanilla bean, lemon curd and a little crème brûlée on the palate.

Technical:

Chardonnay - Alc 13.0%, pH 3.56, TA 5.1, RS Dry.

Winemaker:

Allan McWilliams

Review:

"From the organic grape gurus at Rock Ferry comes this concrete egg-fermented chardonnay that oozes elegance and sex appeal and buckets of nougat niceness. Smooth and citrus-laced, this wine has a seamless, citrusy, cloud-like texture and a round, ripe finish. Love it." - Yvonne Lorkin
